“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.” Psalm 23:1-3
Married now for 38 years, following Christ for more than 45 years, we had a call from the Lord a few years ago. After much reflection, prayer and preparation, we sold our house in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu in the spring of 2021 to settle here in Bury.
We offer pastors and Christian workers the opportunity to stay with us in our home surrounded by countryside. Everything is at your disposal for a pleasant time of rest.
We’ve noticed that there are few places in Quebec where pastors and Christian workers can find affordable accommodation. Given the relentless nature of your work, we firmly believe that taking time away from responsibilities and daily worries to rest is beneficial—for you and for the Church of God. We want to honor your work and dedication by providing a place that fosters blessed and refreshing moments in His presence.
We have only one available room, so your visit will be discreet. We are located in a rural area, particularly peaceful, in the Eastern Townships (Estrie), approximately 30 minutes east of Sherbrooke.
Our two-story old victorian farmhouse in Bury was built in 1840 on over 2500 acres of agricultural and forested land. Most of the lots were sold over the years, except for the 1.25 acres that now belong to us.
The house was constructed on a stone foundation. Remarkably, even after 184 years, it stands strong!
Several families have called it home over the years. The Barter family were its very first owners. Isaac Barter and his family left England and moved here to engage in agriculture. Initially, the land was likely made available to them by the British American Land Company (BALCO).
BALCO actively encouraged Britons, Scots, and even Norwegians to settle and live in the Eastern Townships, both to boost the local economy and to increase the presence of English speaking loyal to the British monarchy.
For your convenience three meals a day are available. (If you prefer, a few restaurants are avaiable in the area). We can accommodate gluten-free or lactose-free meals and snacks for those with intolerances.
Enjoy tea, coffee, or herbal infusions at any time of the day at our kitchen's coffee bar.
If you plan to fast during your stay, please let us know when making your reservation. If you prefer to have only one or two meals a day, feel free to mention it.
You’ll have access to Wi-Fi if you desire. However, please note that cellular towers are at a certain distance, and our wooded surroundings may result in sporadic cell reception.
Here, if you want, you will truly have access to tranquility, beautiful landscapes, and a sense of peace.
We do have a traditional landline phone, so you can leave the number with your loved ones in case of emergencies.
You’ll have access to a well-appointed private room with a double bed on the second floor. The room is situated at the other end of the house. There’s space for your clothes, a writing desk, a hairdryer, a bathrobe, and a fan. The room is air-conditioned.
On the second floor, there’s an open space reserved for you as a reading nook. Feel free to read a variety of books at your disposal.
Showers and baths are located on the ground floor in the family bathroom. Towels and washcloths are provided.
Outside, there’s a large private gazebo set apart from the house, it is exclusively reserved for your use. It’s surrounded by pine trees and wooded areas, perfect for moments of reflection. You’ll find a table and chairs for meals or writing, as well as a lounge chair for relaxing.
On the ground floor, the back terrace of the house has an exclusive dining area where you can enjoy your meals or beverages alone if you prefer and weather permitting.
The property is at your disposal, and you can move around freely. There’s a wooded trail leading to a stream that will charm you.
Swings are available, and weather permitting, we occasionally have bonfires in the evenings during the summer.
Stays of 1 to 4 nights are available, depending on your needs.
If you prefer, you can spend just a day at the house. We adapt to your preferences.
For the summer season of 2024, our accommodation is available from June 21st to September 27th.
Check-in is usaually from 2:00 PM, and check-out is at 11:00 AM, but these hours are totally negotiable.
Reservations are necessary. Please check the Availability section to see the dates and send us an email to reserve.
The property is non-smoking, and currently, we don’t allow pets. However, we do have a young cat under our supervision who doesn’t enter the guest room.
We want to offer our accommodation service for FREE. However, to help cover meals and other accommodation-related expenses, we suggest making a voluntary offering at your discretion. This way, you can bless the next worker in ministry who comes to rest with us (following the “Pay it forward” concept).
If you need to cancel your stay with us, please notify us as early as possible via email or phone. We do grocery shopping and prepare meals in anticipation of your arrival.
Given the demand for our guest room, it would be unfortunate to prevent another worker from benefiting from our service. Currently, we have only one guest room.
The Township of Bury, originally comprising the villages of Victoria and Robinson, was establishedin 1803. Eventually, the township and its two villages merged to become the single village of Bury.
The name “Bury” harks back to a British town located in Lancashire, United Kingdom.
Our village has fewer than 1200 inhabitants, and it boasts several architectural treasures that have retained their original state. Styles such as vernacular and Victorian are sure to charm you.
Bury is situated between the municipalities of Cookshire-Eaton and East Angus. These three municipalities are part of what is known as the Haut Saint-François region. Haut Saint-François encompasses 14 municipalities and is located in the southeastern part of Estrie, approximately 150 km east of Montreal. The area is characterized by its hills, valleys, rivers, and bordered by mountains to the south and east.
Here, you’ll find over 600 farms, and forests cover more than 80% of the territory. These forests serve as a valuable resource for local sawmills, paper mills, and numerous Christmas tree producers. Just a two-hour drive from Montreal, you’ll be transported to this beautiful corner of the country, with its breathtaking mountains, hills, lush greenery, and scenic views.
The guesthouse is located on a rarely traveled unpaved road that stretches for 2.5 km. You can walk or bike along it. Note that motorized vehicles are allowed to travel at 70 km/h.
There’s another quieter path that isn’t well-maintained but still charming. No vehicles circulate there. It offers a rustic trail of about 1 km surrounded by mature trees, wooded areas, a small stream, and fields with young pine and spruce plantations.
About a 9-minute drive away in East Angus, you’ll find the Parc des Deux Rivières (Two Rivers Park), which has over 7 km of wooded trails near a beautiful river.
In Bury, approximately 4 km from the guesthouse, you’ll find a small convenience store and a post office.
Other interesting places to visit in Bury include the “Du coq à l’âne” farm, which promotes organic agriculture, and the Libella flower farm, where you can pick your own flowers. Nearby blueberry farms also offer pick-your-own blueberries, usually from mid-July to mid-August.
If you enjoy farmers’ markets, Bury hosts one every two weeks on Saturdays throughout the summer. Many other villages around Bury also have their own markets, most are held on Saturdays.
The Pen-Y-Bryn Golf Club (819-872-3488) in Bury is renowned as one of the oldest golf courses in North America. It offers a 9-hole/18-hole course in a charming setting. Just a five-minute drive from the B&B, it’s definitely worth exploring. Plus, they have an on-site snack bar for a quick bite.
If you’re interested in other golf courses within a 35-minute radius of Bury, here are a few more options

Club De Golf Milby:, this public course has been welcoming golfers since 1964.
Club De Golf East Angus: this 18-hole public course has a rich history and is known for its scenic beauty.
Club De Golf Waterville:. It’s another great spot for golf enthusiasts.
Feel free to explore these courses and tee off!
If you ever need to purchase certain items, we recommend heading to Cookshire-Eaton, accessible via Route 108 West. Approximately 7 km from Chemin Veilleux, you’ll find a grocery store (IGA), pharmacy, hardware store, gas station with a convenience store, post office, hardware store, Korvette store, a dairy bar, an antique shop, and the famous microbrewery 11 Comtés, along with several restaurants and snack bars. We recommend L'ochidée which offers gelato's as well a great menus for lunch and dinners from Wednesdays to Sundays.
Bring your personal items (such as shampoo, soap, etc.), as well as boots or walking shoes that can handle mud in addition to your usual footwear. Our road and driveway are dirt-packed. If you have a fat bike bring it along, you'll enjoy the countryside.
Pack mosquito repellent (especially because we have small black flies in June), a raincoat if you want to enjoy outdoor outings even in gloomy weather, and warmer clothing for cozy evenings around thecampfire. Summer evenings in the countryside can be cool.
If you own a telescope or binoculars, we encourage you to bring them. Bury is part of the “Réserves de ciel étoilé” (Starlight Reserves) group. You’ll be pleasantly surprised by the number of stars and constellations visible on cloudless nights. For more information, visit Ciel Étoilé Mont-Mégantic.
We would love to share updates with you through our newsletter!
We wholeheartedly desire to keep our accommodation service free. We understand that it’s not always possible for a worker to take vacations or find respite elsewhere due to incurred expenses. We don’t want this to hinder God’s call for many to take a break.
A well-rested worker who spends time in God’s presence greatly benefits their church. We invite guests to contribute financially to this mission following the “Pay it forward” model, if possible for them.
Your financial support would be greatly appreciated. Please note that we do not issue tax receipts, as we are not a registered charity.
Taking care of a large property with flowers, trees, shrubs, and a wooded area requires a lot of time and energy. You can assist us by performing various tasks around the house: weeding, trimming branches, clearing brush, chopping wood, cleaning, washing, staining our terraces, and more. Your hands and enthusiasm would be a great comfort to us. We believe that the success of any ministry is teamwork.
We have always believed that prayer is the lifeblood of a ministry. Without the support of the community in prayer and the action of the Holy Spirit for our B & B, our work would be in vain. Please pray that we always fulfill the Father’s will, that we have the energy and health to welcome our guests, that they feel at home, and that they experience extraordinary moments in God’s presence. Pray that many workers recognize the Lord’s invitation to come and rest and that they respond to it. Finally, pray for God’s financial provision for this mission.
We are in need of:
Thank you for your support!
